Women Civic Education and Citizenship

WIPSEN-Africa's 'Women Civic Education and Citizenship' programme is very closely linked to its 'Women-led Non-violent Elections Campaign' programme. However unlike the latter which basically involves the mass mobilization of women to guarantee their political participation, the former is a bit more theory-oriented and revolves around capacity building and information sharing on voter and civic rights/education. The programme is structured to address the specific challenges which women face as either political aspirants or voters and thus engages women right from when voter registration commences to the elections proper. Specific issues which the programme focuses on include campaign strategies for female aspirants, voter registration to ensure increased numbers of women are registered, etc. More specifically the programme aims to:

  1.
    1. Increase knowledge among women and girls on their civil and political rights to vote and be voted for.
    2. Provide skills and information to female aspirants on identified special areas to enhance their candidacies.
    3. Enhance women's voting rights and eliminate proxy voting.
