African Women Human Security Watch

WIPSEN-Africa's African Women Human Security Watch programme emphasizes the need for gender to be effectively mainstreamed into early warning systems on the continent as a prerequisite for early response that responds to the specific needs of women, men, boys and girls. For WIPSEN-Africa, civil society participation is a vital element in early warning on issues of human security and this participation must be representative of all sectors. Thus, the programme intends to address the minimal participation of African women in early warning systems at all stages --from information gathering, analyses to response development.

Through the programme WIPSEN-Africa intend to:
  1. Increase the level of women's participation in early warning systems.
  2. Provide women specialized skills needed to monitor and analyze information for early warning.
  3. Strengthen women's lobbying, advocacy and negotiation skills to ensure early gender-sensitive response.
