Displaced Women Peace Outreach
WIPSEN-Africa's displaced women peace outreach programme specifically focuses on refugee women and girls and is structured to enable them acquire basic conflict resolution and peacebuilding skills which is needed to bolster peaceful co-existence, tolerance and non-violence among them and their fellow refugees, as well as with the host communities. The programme is also intended to identify the special needs which women and girls face as a result of their refugee status, in order that just and equitable solutions are found, including special interventions to boost the self esteem/confidence of refugee women, advocating for women's active involvement in the management and implementation of camp programmes, etc. Thus the objectives of the programme are to:
- Transform refugee women's status of 'helpless victimhood' to active partners in peacebuilding and development.
- Build/strengthen their capacities for leadership, conflict prevention and resolution.
- Eliminate violence against refugee women and girls in refugee camps.
